PetroGuard advanced absorption technology utilized "enhanced molecular capture" is used to instantly hyper-immobilize and solidify (stabilize) hydrocarbon based chemicals including most reactive compounds. PetroGuard has a strong affinity for hydrocarbon-based liquids, particularly the primary aromatic compounds. PetroGuard* is a proprietary polymer blend with a high absorbent capacity. It is one of the most efficient absorbents available being up to four times more efficient and cost effective than conventional "oil dry" or "kitty litter" type products. The most unique and important characteristic of PetroGuard is that once absorbed, liquids will not be released (leach), even under pressure. Production of toxic vapors will be dramatically reduced or eliminated. *PetroGuard is certified by the USEPA as a sorbent under Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations of the National Contingency Plan. What is meant by "hyper-immobilization"?Hyper-immobilization means that the moment PetroGuard is applied to hazardous chemical spill, it will immediately convert the liquid to a solid, and prevent or minimize production of dangerous vapors. Reactive chemicals are quickly rendered safer allowing speedy pickup and disposal. (see video demonstrations below)
VIDEO DEMONSTRATION WITH CHLOROSILANE
VIDEO DEMONSTRATION WITH TITANIUM TETRACHLORIDE Process CharacteristicsPetroGuard's absorptive capacity depends upon the sorbent to selectively absorb molecules with suitable solubility characteristics, directly into its internal structure. This allows the polymer to absorb very large quantities of molecules. Molecules are partitioned into the polymeric regions of the medium, with exceptional affinity for non-polar organic compounds. Once deactivation has taken place, PetroGuard will form an interlocking network matrix with a rubber-like consistency. Suggested Methods of ApplicationThe quickestand easiest way to apply the product is by manually applying to the surface of the liquid chemical. This is best done using a scoop or shovel. For larger standing spills we recommend the use of a backhoe or "cherry picker" with a bucket to which a 27 cubic foot bag or PedtroGuard can be attached with simple nylon strapping. Our bulk bags come equipped with a dispensing spout for spreading PetroGuard over a spill. The 27 cubic foot bulk bags tuck snugly into the scoop of a backhoe and can be then used to spread the absorbent over a larger spill.
